Leeds: Marsch would 'ideally want' key signing at Elland Road

Leeds United would like to sign a new striker in ‘an ideal world’ before the current transfer window closes, according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton.

The west Yorkshire outfit have made a scintillating start to the new Premier League season but could still look to make further additions in what has been a hectic summer for manager Jesse Marsch.

Leeds have already welcomed seven new players to the club in what has been Marsch’s first window at the helm, with the likes of Brendan Aaronson, Tyler Adams and Marc Roca hitting the ground running.

The Elland Road outfit’s spending spree has been financed by the departures of former key players Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips, but their squad is perhaps more balanced as a result.

However, there is still one area of the pitch that is arguably lacking the strength in depth required at the highest level as Patrick Bamford remains their only senior striking option.

Rodrigo has been filling in admirably for Bamford, though, who is currently sidelined once again through injury, while youngsters Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood have both made substitute appearances.

Leeds are unbeaten in their opening four games of the current campaign, yet Thornton believes the supporters would say they are still ‘a striker light’ at this moment in time.

He told GiveMeSport: “So, ask most Leeds fans and they will probably tell you that they are a striker light, and in an ideal world, I think Leeds will bring another striker in.

“But you can see why they might be prepared to wait if the players don’t become available
