West Ham 'in the mix' to land £40m England international at London Stadium

West Ham United could lure Conor Gallagher to the London Stadium as they will be ‘in the mix’ to seal a deal if Chelsea make the midfielder available ahead of the transfer deadline, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

The Hammers raided their London rivals by completing the £15million signing of Emerson Palmieri earlier this week, but they may return to Stamford Bridge for another star ahead of the 11pm cut-off point on September 1.

According to The Sun, West Ham boss Moyes is plotting a late move for Gallagher as he wants to inject pace and power into the heart of his team.

The report suggests the Hammers are keen to acquire the four-cap England international on a season-long loan.

However, West Ham are facing competition for Gallagher’s services as it is understood that Newcastle United have also made him their number one target ahead of the transfer window slamming shut, while Chelsea are seeking £40million.

Crystal Palace will reportedly be at the front of the queue to sign the central midfielder if it becomes clear that a move away from Stamford Bridge could be in the offing.

It comes after Gallagher spent last season on loan with Patrick Vieira’s side, but he has only been afforded 69 minutes of action since returning to his parent club.

Taylor believes Gallagher could be allowed to leave Chelsea before the transfer deadline, particularly if a new central midfielder heads to west London.

If that is the case, the journalist feels West Ham will be in contention to secure the 22-year-old’s services.

Taylor told GIVEMESPORT: “I think there could be movement on that front, but it may hinge on whether Chelsea sign someone.

“If there is movement, I would expect West Ham to be completely in the mix.”
