Lee Bowyer speaks out on the situation at Birmingham City

Birmingham City have had a number of poor seasons of late with their highest league finish in the last five seasons being 17th. 

Currently, Birmingham sit 18th in the league.

Despite this, manager Lee Bowyer believes he has brought some stability to the club since coming in towards the end of last season which they can now build off for next season as he told Birmingham Live: “I think we have been in a bad place for a few years at this club, this season I think we have steadied the ship, we have not been in a relegation fight.

“Then it will be looking ahead to next season, can we now close the gap even more and move higher up the league.

“I think we would have been higher, that’s just my opinion, but certain things didn’t go our way, we have had a bit of bad luck off the field – and on the field with a lot of big decisions. Some people say it evens itself out, I haven’t seen that this season but hopefully it does next.”

Despite feeling frustrated by bad luck his side have faced this year, Bowyer knows there’s work to be on the pitch as well as he said: “But it’s not just those things, us as a group have to keep improving. We went to Swansea and should have won comfortably. Barnsley away we should have won comfortably. We have drawn too many. The two games against Reading I felt we should have won, we created enough chances to win both games. Preston at home, there are a lot of games we have missed too many chances.”

Although The Blues still sit down at the wrong end of the league, there has been improvement as their clean sheet tally is already equal to last season’s and they’ve scored more goals.
