Birmingham City weighing up managerial move for 39-year-old

Championship side Birmingham City are currently weighing up Forest Green Rovers manager Rob Edwards as a potential successor for current incumbent Lee Bowyer, according to a Patreon report from journalist Alan Nixon.

The 39-year-old has done a remarkable job with the League Two side this term, guiding them to the third tier with ease despite a mid-season wobble a couple of months ago, currently sitting in second place at this stage and can still win the title if they win and better Exeter City’s result next weekend.

With this, Edwards has inevitably attracted interest from elsewhere with second-tier outfit Birmingham thought to be searching for their replacement for current boss Bowyer despite not officially parting company with the 44-year-old yet.

After enduring a promising start to the campaign, even climbing into fourth place in September following a promising end to the 2020/21 campaign under their current boss, they have declined since then and look set to finish in 20th place following their draw against Cardiff City yesterday afternoon.

Bowyer found the West Midlands outfit in a similar position when he took over last March – and with that – he now looks set to head for the exit door at St Andrew’s.

They won’t be short of competition for Edwards’ services though with fourth-tier side Salford City also thought to be interested in a move for him, though Birmingham may be the more attractive option at this stage as a club in a superior league.

The Verdict:

Unfortunately, the Blues’ issues run far deeper than the manager and this is why the board also need to step up to the plate off the pitch this summer to improve the mood at the club and deliver the signings Bowyer or his potential successor will need.

In fairness
