Lee Bowyer receives backing as Birmingham City face new worrying prospect

Birmingham City travel to Blackpool on Easter Monday searching for only their second Championship win on the road in over five months.

It's been another disappointing campaign for Blues and Lee Bowyer, who has seen his side slip further down the league table in recent weeks. Birmingham have lost their last two games against promotion hopefuls Nottingham Forest and Coventry City, while they have won just two of their last 10.

Having scored more than one goal in only three games in that time, Blues do not look like they will be able to turn a corner any time soon. So it will probably come as music to Bowyer's ears that there are only four games left to play this campaign.

Of course, there is no prospect of the club being drawn into a late relegation fight, with Derby County, Peterborough United and Barnsley all destined for the drop, but there's every chance that Reading could find enough points to drag Blues into 21st position come the final weekend of the season.

Reading have won two of their last three league games, including an impressive 2-1 victory over Sheffield United last time out. And with games against Swansea City and Hull City remaining, Bowyer's Blues could drop one more place to finish the season in their lowest position since 2014, when the club avoided relegation on goal difference via Paul Caddis's stoppage-time equaliser at Bolton Wanderers on the last match of the season.

After Birmingham's trip to Bloomfield Road on Monday, they then host Millwall and travel to Cardiff City before ending the season against Blackburn Rovers at St. Andrew's.
