Laois stalwart John O'Loughlin retires after 15-year inter-county career
Laois GAA has bade farewell to another stalwart with the news that the vastly experienced John O'Loughlin has retired.
The highly talented powerhouse this evening called time on his top flight senior football career after 15 seasons.
The versatile O'Loughlin, also an outstanding hurler, made his debut in 2008 as a 19 year-old.
He remained a mainstay of the Laois team until yesterday’s Tailteann Cup loss to Westmeath.
O’Loughlin also represented his country in the International Rules series.
The dual player was in big demand as an underage player and represented Laois at minor and under-21.
His retirement comes just after another Laois warrior, Colm Begley, confirmed his departure from inter-county footballer.
O’Loughlin made 167 appearances for Laois in his 15-year career, third in the overall list and behind only Ross Munnelly and Michael Lawlor.
He served under nine managers in his time with the senior team.
He won Leinster minor and under-21 football medals, played in all four divisions and will continue to play with his club Rosenallis.
