Kyogo roars Celtic are Champions League ready as he targets a century after smashing 50 goal barrier

Kyogo Furuhashi wants to hit a Celtic century and crack the Champions League.

And boss Ange Postecoglou hopes his happy hitman is at Parkhead for the long haul. Kyogo is PFA Scotland Player of the Year after an outstanding campaign. The striker has bagged 30 goals this term to help Postecoglou’s men win the Premiership and Viaplay Cup and a Scottish Cup Final win can secure a Treble.

Kyogo has smacked 50 since moving from Vissel Kobe and, asked if he could now get to the Celtic 100 milestone, he said: “Hopefully I will, but we don’t know the future. I just want to work hard for the club. I want to play as many days as I can and make the supporters happy. That’s how I feel.

“Even outside of the pitch, people recognise me and say hi. They say positive things about me, whether home or away they support me. I feel that, I am happy about it and it’s helping me perform well. I just want to be a striker who can score more goals and threaten the opponents.”

As well as the PFA award, Kyogo landed two more club prizes on Sunday night and added: “I am really pleased to win all the awards. The reason I got them was due to all the support from the fans, my team-mates and the coaching staff. Everyone has supported me and I could not be happier.”

Kyogo’s work has seen some fans dub him the club’s best striker since Henrik Larsson and the Japanese said: “I am very pleased to be compared with one of the greatest players in Celtic’s history.”

Although Kyogo has dominated domestic defences, he was unable to secure a goal in the Champions League. Celtic secured two points from their six matches in a section which included Real Madrid.
