Kyle Wootton outlines Notts County ‘credit’ after Stockport County transfer

Former Notts County striker Kyle Wootton has thanked the Magpies for giving him a chance to show what he could do in the National League after completing a move to Stockport County.

The forward signed a three-year contract with the League Two club last week, bringing to an end a three-year spell with Notts. He scored a total of 20 goals in 46 appearances in all competitions for the club last season.

Speaking about how the move came about, Wootton revealed that he initially heard about Stockport’s interest in the winter window. “It first came about in January, but it didn’t work out, so I obviously finished the season with County,” he told Stockport’s media team.

“There were a lot of talks going on in the last few weeks. I’m just so happy it’s sorted.”

Stockport weren’t the only team interested in signing Wootton this summer, with Portsmouth also credited with an interest. The striker explained the reasons behind choosing to move to Edgeley Park.

"I was really excited about the journey the club's going on. Obviously, getting out of the National League, for me - the toughest league to get out of. Obviously, (Stockport) had a great season, I can really see the potential that the club’s got and I think it's really going good places at the minute.

"For me, they're very attacking-minded, straight to it and a lot of balls into the box, which a player like myself thrives off. This is a big reason why I’ve come here, the way the team plays, the players around that, the manager."

Wootton signed for Notts from Scunthorpe United, initially on loan, in the summer of 2019. His goalscoring exploits at Meadow Lane have seen him move back into league football, and he has credited Notts for giving him his chance to show what he can do.
