Notts County turn down bids for star as duo attract serious transfer interest

Notts County are fighting to keep hold of Ruben Rodrigues after turning down a number of bids for the Portuguese forward from England and abroad.

And the Magpies are also understood to have received a number of serious enquiries from Football League sides for winger Callum Roberts. The duo were standout performers for Notts last season with Rodrigues scoring more than 20 goals while Roberts also hit double figures.

Notts are understood to have rejected the offers for Rodrigues because they have not met their expectations with the former Den Bosch attacker considered one of the best talents outside the EFL. Sources have told NottinghamshireLive that neither player will be allowed to join another National League club.

That was the case when Chesterfield made an offer to sign Roberts last season and it is understood that remains the club's position. While losing players of such calibre would be a blow, it is understood that Notts will only consider sanctioning their exit for a large fee.

Since the Reedtz brothers took charge of the club in July 2019, they have yet to sell any players for significant money. But chairman Christoffer and his brother Alex have stressed that any money made by the way of player sales would be reinvested in the playing budget.

Roberts and Rodrigues have long been considered jewels in the crown for Notts with their attacking flair allied with their goalscoring exploits that have drawn numerous scouts to Meadow Lane. Should either player depart, if their valuations are met, it would not be too problematic for Notts who have completed several exciting additions this summer.

Macaulay Langstaff, Cedwyn Scott and Sam Austin have already arrived having won a number of rave reviews for their performances
