Notts County and Basford United to make charity donation in honour of late chairman

Basford United have confirmed that a percentage of the proceeds made from their pre-season fixture with Notts County next month will be donated to charity following the passing of newly appointed chairman Jamie Brough.

Luke Williams’ Magpies make the short trip across the city on Tuesday, July 5 (7.45pm), and a portion of gate receipts will be presented to the Brough family pre-match by representatives of both clubs with their full support.

The final total will later be donated to Sport in Mind, the UK’s leading mental health sports charity. Brough had been appointed at Greenwich Avenue only a few days prior to his death and members of the Sports Gateway community – his company, founded in 2015 – will also be in attendance.

“Firstly, we want to say a massive thank you to Chris Munroe at Basford United and the guys at Notts County Football club for making this happen, for what, ultimately, is an excellent cause,” Jamie’s son Jude said.

“The support we have received as a family has been brilliant and it is clear to see the impact Jamie had on many people’s lives.

“He’ll be in our memories and hearts forever – a huge thank you from all Brough family.”

Basford owner Chris Munroe added: “We are delighted Jason Turner [chief executive] and Notts County have agreed to the initiative.

“It just goes to show how supportive our senior sides are of this worthwhile and compassionate gesture in memory of Jamie. We are also pleased to be welcoming members of the Brough family and Sports Gateway next month.”

United have encouraged that both sets of fans purchase tickets in advance via their club shop.
