Kobbie Mainoo makes surprisingly honest Manchester United apology after Liverpool goal

Manchester United's rising star Kobbie Mainoo has issued an apology for his wild celebration after netting against Liverpool in the dramatic draw on Sunday.

The 18-year-old midfield talent gave United the lead in the second half following Bruno Fernandes' equalising strike against the run of play. Receiving the ball from Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Mainoo executed a sharp turn and elegantly curled the ball past Liverpool's Caoimhin Kelleher from just inside the box.

Despite being outplayed in the first half and failing to register a shot, United came back strong after the break, with Mainoo's goal sparking celebrations. The newly-capped England international, who became the youngest player to score a Premier League goal against Liverpool, was seen celebrating even before the ball crossed the line.

Mainoo, while clearly thrilled with his first professional goal at Old Trafford, especially in such a huge match, was quick to express his regret for getting carried away. "Yeah, it felt good so got ahead of myself," he said. "Sorry."

He continued, reflecting on the significance of the moment: "Unbelievable feeling, first professional goal at Old Trafford and to do it in this fixture is also amazing. At the end of the day, we don't walk away with the three points so I can't be too happy," reports the Mirror.

Mohammed Salah's late penalty in the 84th minute snatched a victory from Manchester United's grasp. Wan-Bissaka's foul on Harvey Elliott in the box set up the Egyptian forward for a successful spot-kick.
