Manchester United training without 10 players amid new injury crisis

Manchester United had to draft in a slew of youngsters into first team training on Wednesday to offset their depleted squad amid another injury crisis.

Midfielders Zach Baumann, James Scanlon and Jack Fletcher, as well as forwards Shea Lacey and Ethan Wheatley were all involved in team training.

Marcus Rashford was not visible after he came off injured in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Sunday while there was no sign of Scott McTominay after he missed the game with an unspecified injury. Sofyan Amrabat came on in the second half against Liverpool and was also not accounted for.

Defenders Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane could all be out for the remainder of the month. Left back Tyrell Malacia is not expected to return from a knee injury this season.

United said on January 24 Anthony Martial would be out for 10 weeks and he is still yet to return to team training 11 weeks on.

Habeeb Ogunneye and Harry Amass, both on the bench against Liverpool, started for United Under-21s in their 1-1 draw with Brighton on Monday night. Wheatley came on in the 59th minute.

Baumann, Scanlon, Fletcher, Lacey and Wheatley were called up to supplement a 19-man training squad of outfield players. None of the teenagers have appeared in a first team matchday squad before.

United travel to Bournemouth on Saturday having won only one of their past six Premier League games. United are 11 points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham in the table.
