Harry Maguire gives honest verdict on Manchester United feelings after FA Cup win vs Coventry

Harry Maguire questioned the responsibility of himself and his teammates after Manchester United survived a huge scare to scrape through to the FA Cup final at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

United beat Coventry City 4-2 on penalties after squandering a 3-0 lead in normal time, conceding three times beyond the 70th minute. The Reds were coasting towards the final after goals from Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes and Maguire.

However, Ellis Simms kickstarted a Sky Blues comeback, making it 1-3, before Callum O'Hare's deflected effort eight minutes later set up a grandstand finish. Coventry completed a remarkable comeback in the fifth minute of stoppage time via a Haji Wright penalty.

Coventry thought they had won it late on in extra-time through January signing Victor Torp, but United were saved by VAR before prevailing on penalties. As a result, Maguire suggested there was a somewhat sombre mood within the camp post-match.

Maguire told MUTV: "We don't feel amazing at the moment. Maybe we will wake up tomorrow morning and realise we are in another cup final; it is three in two years.

"The club demands winning these big trophies and being in these big finals, and it is one we are looking forward to. It was a really, really, really strange game to play in.

"We had so much control in the game and out of nowhere it was 3-2. We let them back in far too easily."

On United's capitulation in the final half hour, Maguire added: "It was good for the first 60 minutes, we performed well. The last 30 minutes were nowhere near good enough for this club.
