Bruno Fernandes fires clear response to Manchester United celebrations after Coventry City win

Bruno Fernandes has admitted that Manchester United have to do "much better" after they fortunately beat Coventry City on penalties in the FA Cup semi-final.

The Reds were winners at Wembley Stadium with a 4-2 penalty shoot-out win over the Championship team. Erik ten Hag's men had squandered a 3-0 lead in the final 15 minutes and escaped an enormous cup exit when Victor Torp's 120th-minute winner was ruled out for offside.

Rasmus Hojlund scored the decisive spot-kick after Andre Onana saved from Callum O'Hare and Ben Sheaf blazed over. United will take on Manchester City in a repeat of last season's final.

After the Reds supporters let their feelings known at full-time with boos, Fernandes provided an honest admission on the current state of the club. Speaking to ITV Sport, the United captain admitted they have to do better.

"We put ourselves in a difficult moment because we had the game in control and could have killed it, but we didn't," he said. "Credit to them for what they did but we have to do much better."

Asked if winning the FA Cup would make this season a success, he replied: "We'll never be successful even if we win the FA Cup. We know the standard of this club is much higher than we've been doing.

"We know that we have to do much better in the league, Carabao Cup and European competition. If we win it [the FA Cup], it's going to be successful but we know that this club is much more than that."
