Kirsty Gallacher gives health update after shock tumour diagnosis

Kirsty Gallacher has given a health update after a shock diagnosis. The TV and radio veteran has been told she has a tumour.

The 48-year-old has been diagnosed with a benign acoustic neuroma, which is a tumour located in the inner canal of her right ear. She first found out about the tumour in the summer of 2021 and left her hosting job at GB News in December later that year due to symptoms of the condition giving her tinnitus.

Now the presenter has opened up about the latest health update she's had while promoting National Rail's new campaign, the Daily Star reports.

Kirsty told the Daily Star: "The tumour is a benign acoustic neuroma which they don't really know how they are caused.

"I am in close contact with my consultant and recently it was great to hear that it hasn't grown so I can put off treatment. Eventually, I may need treatment to shrink it but with these things, you never know it could shrink itself.

"My hearing is slightly compromised in that ear and it causes low-level tinnitus which can disrupt my sleep but I've learnt to live with it and I'm used to it."

Tinnitus can make noises sound like a ringing, humming, or buzzing and can occur in one or both ears. It can really bother individuals who suffer from it and disturb their sleep and concentration levels.

Kirsty initially put her worsening tinnitus symptoms down to sleep deprivation, due to early starts at GB News. She had previously left Sky Sports for the new role.

Shortly after her exit, Kirsty said: "During the summer I discovered I have a tumour in the inner canal of my right ear. Thankfully, it's benign and not hugely detrimental to my normal life.
