Key West Brom player reportedly agrees switch to Crystal Palace

Sam Johnstone has agreed a four-year with Crystal Palace and will join the club from West Bromwich Albion, it’s been revealed by Sky Sports.

The West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper has been linked away considerably in recent times and it now looks as though he is going to be leaving The Hawthorns and pitching up at Selhurst Park.

Indeed, according to Sky Sports’ transfer centre ticker, with an update at 10:30, Johnstone will be joining the Eagles on July 1, with him penning a four-year agreement with the club.

Johnstone will be looking to push current number 1 at Palace Vicente Guaita for a starting spot, with Patrick Vieira evidently looking to add some competition in between the sticks in south London.

West Brom, meanwhile, will have been braced for this news for some time, and will hope it’s not going to derail their promotion plans for the coming season.

The Verdict

This is going to be a fascinating signing for Palace who already have a good goalkeeper in Guaita.

Johnstone evidently feels he can go in there and challenge for the no.1 spot, though, as otherwise he’d surely be moving elsewhere or staying at West Brom.

A four-year contract is an endorsement of Palace’s plans for him, too, and now West Brom need to make sure they deal with the void he leaves accordingly.
