Middlesbrough want Preston North End loan star as Crystal Palace agree Johnstone deal

The transfer window is open and Preston North End are looking to bring in their first signing of the summer this week.

Here are the latest transfer headlines surrounding PNE and former Lilywhites players.

Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is set for his Preston North End medical today ahead of a permanent transfer to the Lilywhites. The 25-year-old would become Ryan Lowe's first signing of the summer and arrive to be the club's number-one for the 2022/23 campaign.

The Athletic claim that Premier League side AFC Bournemouth were interested in taking him back, after a loan spell with the Cherries in the second half of last season. PNE look set to win the race, however.

Middlesbrough are the latest club to be named as a suitor for Leicester City goalkeeper Daniel Iversen. The Danish shot-stopper was a revelation for PNE over the last 18 months on loan.

Boro have now reportedly listed him and Newcastle's Karl Darlow as potential number ones for next season, with Sunderland also said to be interested in Iversen. The 'keeper is not available for a loan move at present but Leicester will listen to permanent offers.

Former Preston North End loan goalkeeper Sam Johnstone will return to the Premier League for next season, according to The Athletic's report. He is said to have agreed a four-year contract with Crystal Palace after seeing his West Brom deal expire this summer.
