Kevin Holt injury sparks Dundee Utd sweat as Jim Goodwin gives update ahead of Raith Rovers title showdown

Concerned Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin has admitted things don’t look good over Kevin Holt’s knee injury. The defender limped out of the weekend draw with Inverness and left the stadium on crutches.

Holt has to wait for the swelling to go down so he can get his knee scanned to find out the full extent of the damage. The fear is that it could be long-term and Holt is unlikely to play again this season. Goodwin confirmed: "We are still waiting to get Kev in for a scan. That will happen this week, but – similar to what we thought at the weekend – it doesn’t look good. All we can really do is stay positive and try to be optimistic until we see what that scan comes back with.”

Holt’s injury has opened the door for Ross Graham to come in and fill the left central defensive position. He will start in this weekend’s top of the table Championship clash with Raith Rovers.

The United boss confirmed: “Ross Graham did great when he came in during Declan Gallagher’s absence.

“We all know what Declan Gallagher can do and Ross was very unlucky to come out of the team. Deccy and Holt have been the best centre-half pairing in the league this season and it made sense to put them back together.

“Yes, Ross was disappointed to come out of the team but now it looks like he is going to have the chance to play some games at a very important stage of the season. We know what he is capable of and we are quite comfortable about the situation, albeit gutted for Kev.

“You always know when a player is disappointed – especially as he was doing well. He was very good, particularly playing on his weaker side, and he’ll now get an opportunity to play on his more comfortable side. He has a great range of passing and we are relaxed about the situation.
