Airdrie ace Todorov sets sights on Raith Rovers after fastest goal of career helped sink Morton

Nikolay Todorov scored the fastest goal of his career with a fine strike to help fire Airdrie into play-off contention and claim the man of the match award.

But he insists he should have been walking away with the match ball from the Diamonds' dominant display over Morton.

The Bulgarian hitman took just 57 seconds to open the scoring at a blustery New Broomfield, rifling home from distance to send Airdrie on the road to a 3-1 win that has strengthened their grip on fourth spot in the Championship.

Todorov took his tally to eleven goals for the season before Charlie Telfer got in on the act after 15 minutes with a low strike from the edge of the box and Mason Hanock's header clinched the win in 68 minutes.

However, he spurned chances to add to his tally, most notably early in the second half when he burst through on goal and fired over the bar.

And he said: "I am disappointed not to get more. I could have had two or three today.

"I wanted to score more and I could have assisted one or two as well.

"Hitting double figures and being in the position for the play-offs is good, but my mentality is different because I probably should have walked away with the match ball today.

"We need to make sure we are clinical and make sure we kill games off."

He added: "I think that is the fastest goal I've scored in my career.

"There is no better start to a game than that and being able to give that confidence to the team.

"That is why I am there. I was lucky enough to hit it and see it go in.

"I would rather have the shot and miss, rather than miss the opportunity to shoot. I wanted to try and make the goalie work and, luckily, I scored.

"It is one of the best goals I've scored in my career.

"As long as I contribute I am happy.
