Kemar Roofe gives Rangers MACHINE mentality insight and insists they're ready to flick switch

Kemar Roofe insists Rangers won’t blow a domestic gasket just because of a minor malfunction in Europe.

The hitman admits there was huge disappointment around Ibrox that the wheels came off their continental adventure against Benfica on Thursday. The Light Blues have made a habit of going deep in the Europa League and had high hopes of another run this term.

Instead they were left with a feeling of what might have been after a 3-2 aggregate knockout at the last-16 stage. Benfica are a top side – as their position in the Portuguese league proves – but they went into the double-header on a serious wobble. They might have even been there for the taking. Rangers were not far off either. A couple of frustrating goals conceded in Lisbon took some of the glint off a tremendous first-leg 2-2 draw.

But Thursday night in Glasgow didn’t quite go to plan as Gers couldn’t find top gear in the final third and were picked off on the break. It was a brave effort in the howling wind and rain. And there are plenty of Ibrox fans who are prepared to look on the bright side. Rangers are bang in the hunt for an incredible Treble – a notion that was unthinkable during those tough, dark autumn days towards the end of Michael Beale’s reign.

Roofe is adamant there is no way Gers will breakdown on the home front as master mechanic Philippe Clement has built a winning machine. The Jamaican striker said: “We’ve shown many times over the seasons, and this one, that we will redouble our efforts. We’re disappointed but we will recover. It’s like a switch we’ve got. The gaffer has brought a kind of machine mentality – we go again. We still have so much to play for. And let’s not underestimate the quality of the Europa League and the team we lost to.
