Ally McCoist makes Rangers confession about Steven Gerrard and how it applies directly to current star turn

Ally McCoist has warned Fabio Silva he should not be too hasty to rush back to Wolves at the end of his loan deal - as he urged the striker to learn from Steven Gerrard's mistake.

The Portuguese attacker has struggled to make an impact at Molineux since his blockbuster £35m transfer from Porto in 2020 - and was shipped out to the Scottish Premiership to kickstart his career as part of Philippe Clement's Ibrox revolution in January. The 21-year-old has emerged as a key player for the Light Blues in their pursuit of the Scottish Premiership title - with Rangers pushing for a domestic Treble this term.

Silva has previously admitted he would be open to staying at Ibrox next season if a deal could be struck with the Wolves - and McCoist has backed him to stay for another season. While insisting that Silva can make the grade in the English top flight the Ibrox legend claims the Portugal U21 cap would benefit from an extending stay north of the border.

Asked by Tribal Football if he has been impressed by the forward since his arrival, McCoist said: "Yes, I genuinely have. He's given us a lot of energy. We all know the Rangers supporters, the one thing they appreciate is a 100 percent level of commitment and effort from the players. He has certainly done that. In some of the games I think he's been excellent.

"The away game at Benfica in particular, was the best game he has played for the club, I think. But while he has done well, I believe he will do better. And I think there is more goals to come. He is definitely good enough (for the Premier League), but I think he will enjoy the period away from Wolves at this moment in time.
