Kelle Roos insists Aberdeen FC CAN catch Hearts but warns Dons of key factor that could see third slip away

Kelle Roos has warned Aberdeen need to get their finger out and hit the ground running in their chase to reclaim third place in the Premiership.

The Dons go into the second half of the season looking to play catch-up on Hearts and the other Euro-chasing rivals, although they do have a games in hand over their rivals. Aberdeen travel to St Johnstone on Wednesday and Roos is well aware his side need to hit top gear because they’re already 14 points behind the Jambos.

The Reds keeper said: “I get that belief from looking around me in the changing room knowing I have the quality all around me to get to third. To win every single game in this league, that gives me the belief we can go for third place. If we get some details right we can beat any team. And if we do that then we can go to push for third. But if we don’t do it we might run out of time so we need to do it fast.”

Aberdeen sit in the bottom half of the Premiership table but the Dutchman reckons the table looks a bit false with Aberdeen only having played 18 games. "The games are going to come thick and fast again now,” Roos said. “We just need to go game by game.

“If we start winning a couple then you can start looking at streaks. With the games in hand it makes the table a little bit in between. If you win them it looks alright. If you don’t win them, it doesn’t look so good. You can’t speculate about it too much as we just have to go game by game and start getting points on the board.

“Then find ourselves in a position where we can get what we need. Like ultimately what we did last season.”
