Neil Warnock feels Aberdeen FC love as Tesco trip sees new Pittodrie boss swamped

Neil Warnock admits he has already been feeling the love from Aberdeen fans after taking a trip to his local Tesco in the Granite City.

The 75-year-old was only appointed as Barry Robson's successor on an interim basis last Monday, taking charge of the Dons for the first time a day later in a 2-1 defeat to Rangers at Ibrox. The veteran coach has now had a couple more days to try and get used to his new surroundings and has revealed the warm well wishes he received from supporters on a trip to the supermarket.

Speaking to the media ahead of tomorrow's Scottish Cup fifth round clash with Bonnyrigg Rose, he said: “I’ve had a couple of day in the job now. They are a good group of lads, the facilities are excellent. I went to Tesco last night and I have never seen so many Aberdeen fans! They all welcomed me so it was lovely. I think they all know I am going to try and do the best that I can really. People thought I wouldn’t come up here but it is just a nice challenge if I am honest.”

The esteemed manager can't wait to get his first taste of action in the Pittodrie dugout tomorrow and is determined to ensure the Reds avoid an upset against League Two Bonnyrigg. He added: “Tomorrow will be my first match at Pittodrie. I went down yesterday. It is how I see football from when I grew up and all the way through it. The crowd is right onto you. I have had nothing but good wishes. I suppose people don’t tell me horrible things to my face!
