Kasper Schmeichel to Celtic gets big thumbs up as 'ambitious' veteran lauded by former Rangers man

Kasper Schmeichel has been praised for showing ambition by joining Celtic.

The Denmark No1 is set to hook up with Brendan Rodgers once again after playing under the Northern Irishman during his time in charge at Leicester City. The Hoops lost Joe Hart at the end of the season after he decided to hang up his gloves. That sparked a major search for a new No1 to come in and fill a huge void, not only in the park, but the experience and drive that the former England keeper brought to the dressing room.

Rodgers has now settled on veteran Schmeichel, with the keeper ready to join his new colleagues in the USA and put pen to paper. He will act as a mentor for highly-rated Viljami Sinisalo, who has also arrived this summer from Aston Villa on a five-year deal as he looks to continue learning his trade before staking his claim for the top jersey at Parkhead.

Former Rangers and Danish goalkeeper Jesper Christiansen reckons a move to Scotland is not only fantastic for Kasper but also for Danish football as it shows he still wants to play at the very top and is not ready to stop just yet. Moving to Glasgow will see him challenge for trophies while also get the chance to test himself in the newly revamped Champions League. While Christiansen admits the league standard isn't as good as others, he is heading for a big club and it is great to see rather than heading to Saudi Arabia for megabucks.

Speaking to Tipsbladet, he explained: "If the change falls into place, it is fantastic for Kasper and for Danish football. It also shows that he still has ambitions and that he means it when he says that he is not ready to stop yet.

"He comes to a club which basically wins the championship every year and which plays in the Champions League
