Julian Nagelsmann in Scotland confession as relieved Germany boss admits this is 'no group of death'

Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann confessed he's not downbeat to share a group with Scotland but believes no duds occupy Group A at Euro 2024.

The world footballing powerhouses have been in a slumber in recent years but hope remains high they can do a 2006 and come alive like they did under Jurgen Klinsmann on home soil as they reached the semi finals of the World Cup. And their campaign will kick off against Steve Clarke's side on the opening night in Munich on June 14. They will then face Hungary and Switzerland in their final two group games. Nagelsmann believes there's a real chance after avoiding Group B which houses Spain, Italy and Croatia.

Speaking after the draw, the 36-year-old admitted: "This is not a group of death, but there are no really bad opponents. This is an interesting group in which we obviously want to assert ourselves.” And Steve Clarke is hell-bent on making sure his Scotland stars are laser-focused on the German side they will take on and not the pomp and ceremony which comes with starring in the opening encounter.

He told the BBC Scotland post-draw show: "It's good, you know what you're up against it. It's nice to be in the tournament and it's nice to be involved in that first game and hopefully we can start the tournament off with a good match.

We've got to make sure it's not about the occasion, it's about the match. We look forward to it, it's an exciting draw. I don't think it would've mattered who we got, it was always going to be exciting."
