Julian Nagelsmann handed Germany vote of confidence for Scotland showdown as DFB chief swerves 'theatres of war'

Germay manager Julian Nagelsmann has been told his job is safe for the Euro 2024 opener against Scotland after being handed a vote of confidence by his country's governing body, the DFB.

The Tartan Army will face off in the opening game of the European Championships against the hosts in Munich in June. The former RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich manager only took charge of the Nationalmannschaft in September after a shocking run of form in this calendar year, including a 4-1 thrashing by Japan on home soil, led to the dismissal of Hansi Flick but the Euro 2024 hosts have lost their last two matches, to Turkiye and Austria, to pile the pressure on the 36-year-old.

Former Liverpool and Germany star Didi Hamann predicted this week that Germany would change managers again if they lost their two friendlies in March away to France and against the Netherlands. But DFB president Bernd Neuendorf has made it clear whatever happens in their four friendlies, which will include two in June, before they face Steve Clarke's side, Nagelsmann will keep his job.

He said: "We will stick with him. We are not entering into any debate about him whatsoever until after the European Championships. We won't let ourselves be distracted from our focus because it's all background noise that we don't need right now.

"He has to have full support for the next six months. There will be no secondary theatres of war.”
