Germany 's******* their pants' against Scotland would mean hosts have the fear of chucking football altogether

If Germany 's**t their pants' against Scotland they may as well chuck football altogether.

Steve Clarke's side have been handed the golden ticket of opening against the hosts in June in Munich, and it will be Scotland's biggest game since they opened the World Cup against Brazil in France 98'. The reaction from the tournament big guns has been generally positive to the Euro 2024 Group A draw, with the Scots due to take on Hungary and Switzerland, and Clarke's men considered by some to be 'clear outsiders' despite coming from Pot 3.

But former Bayern Munich and Germany star Mario Bassler, who won that tournament in Paris 25 years ago, believes his country need to show some confidence in their ability. A defeat at the hands of the Scots, however, and they might as well throw in the towel. He said: "If we s**t our pants in the opening game against Scotland and then against Hungary and Switzerland I really don't know what the point would be of us carrying on.

"If we lose, we would be as well asking me, Lothar Matthaus and Jens Jeremies to get our boots back on. There is one goal and one goal only and that is to finish first in the group.

"Of course you shouldn't underestimate your opponents, but really, it shouldn't be a problem to get through this round and win the section.

"If our players fail again and go out in the first round like they did at the World Cup, then it would be a disaster. Every one of those players would have to hold their hands up and admit playing for the national team is too much for them."
