Josh Doig's chances of landing dream Lazio transfer boosted as new Rome boss eyes Hellas Verona reunion

Former Hibs defender Josh Doig is reportedly still on Lazio's radar - with the club's new manager keen to be reunited with the young Scot.

Doig, 22, only joined current club Sassuolo from Hellas Verona back in January in a £5million deal, but couldn't save I Neroverdi from dropping down to Serie B for the first time in 11 years. However the ex Scotland U21 international's displays have reportedly caught the eye of Rome giants Lazio, who were linked with a move for the left back at the end of the season.

After a dismal campaign in Serie A which they failed to qualify for the Champions League, the Eagles opted not to extend boss Igor Tudor's contract and have since appointed experienced coach Marco Baroni as their new manager - which in turn could boost Doig's hopes of landing a move to the Eternal City. The Hibs youth graduate was a regular under Baroni at previous club Hellas before the club opted to cash in on the big money offer from Sassuolo for the defender's services.

Lazio incumbent Baroni has gone on record praising the Scot's abilities in the past, and had this to say shortly after taking the job at Hellas in the summer of 2023. "Josh is a player with great energy, he's very young", he stated. "He has to be clear-minded but he works and behaves like a true professional. It's not easy for the youngsters to manage pressure, he can improve a lot".
