Jonjoe Kenny deal leaves Celtic fans flabbergasted as Everton defender recovers from Parkhead nightmare

Everton defender Jonjoe Kenny is on the verge of signing a new long-term contract with the Premier League side - leaving Celtic fans absolutely flabbergasted.

The right-back's prospects at Goodison Park looked pretty bleak back in January 2021 when he was sent on-loan to Neil Lennon 's struggling Hoops and played an underwhelming part in the disastrous attempt at winning a tenth consecutive Premiership title.

Kenny, 25, turned out 16 times under Lennon during his spell in Glasgow, including a 2-0 and 4-1 defeats against Rangers, as Steven Gerrard 's men secured the league by March.

The defender struggled to make any sort of positive impression in Scotland, but despite playing his part in such a catastrophic period in Celtic's recent history, the former England Under-21 international seems to have rebuilt his career with the Toffees.

The Liverpool Echo report Kenny is on the verge of penning a new three-year deal with Frank Lampard's side and the news of the impending fresh terms has left Celtic supporters baffled on social media, with one saying on Twitter: "Laughed at by Celtic fans yet offered a new deal at Everton. Jonjoe Kenny is a lucky man."

Another added: "Not only is Jonjoe Kenny the worst right-back I’ve ever seen at Celtic, but I’m struggling to think of a worse player in my lifetime."

A third concluded: "Jonjoe Kenny isn't a Premier League footballer, he wasn't a Scottish Premiership footballer, and he's barely a Championship footballer."

Kenny made 21 Premier League appearances last season, as Everton narrowly avoided relegation to the Championship, with Lampard saying in February: "Jonjoe is another one who comes with the attitude in training.

"I love that. He comes in every day, he loves Everton.
