Lewis Hamilton eager to get to Baku after bumpy ride in Monaco
Lewis Hamilton has said he cannot wait to get to Baku after a bumpy ride in his Mercedes at the Monaco Grand Prix.
The Briton could only manage 8th place in the race on Sunday as he got trapped behind Fernando Alonso in the Alpine, with the Spaniard coasting at points in order to preserve his tyres in the end.
Indeed, it was a weekend to rather forget for Lewis who naturally would have been disappointed that the performance shown in Spain the weekend prior was not carried to Monte-Carlo.
He’s looking forwards instead of backwards, though, and is hoping a smoother ride can be achieved in Baku for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix next week:
“I’m praying that the car doesn’t feel like it does here; this is the worst that it has felt so far just with the bumps. I’m looking forward to going, and [with] my teeth and my jaw moving the whole time, I’m done with the shaking.
“I am pretty sure our [car] is so stiff that the suspension is driving back into the ground.
“I’m looking forward to a more open track [in Baku], I’m just praying it’s not as bumpy as here.”
Certainly, the Mercedes looked very jumpy in Monaco but not because of porpoising.
Instead, the stiff suspension and low-profile tyres on the car combined with the natural street conditions of the track made for a rather uncomfortable ride for the 7-time champion, and he’ll hope that last weekend proves a one-off in that regard.
