Jay Slater searchers find remains in Tenerife – latest updates

It has been reported that remains have been found in the search for missing teenager Jay Slater. The 19-year-old went missing four weeks ago today on the holiday island of Tenerife.

The Spanish Civil Guard are reported to have located a body in the village of Masca near where he was last seen. Initial investigations reportedly suggest he succumbed to an accident or a possible fall, it has been reported.

Charity LBT Global said that, while formal identification has not yet taken place, the remains were found with the 19-year-old's clothes and possessions near his last known location.

Monday marked four weeks since Mr Slater, from Lancashire, was last heard from. He disappeared on the morning of June 17 having called friends to say he was lost in a mountainous part of the holiday island and only had 1% battery left on his phone. A large-scale search by Spanish police followed but was called off after 12 days when no signs of him were found.

On Monday, July 15, a spokesman for the Spanish Civil Guard said: "The mountain rescue and intervention group of the Civil Guard has located the lifeless body of a young man in the Masca area after 29 days of constant search.

"Given the complexity of the case, the discovery has been possible thanks to the incessant and discreet search carried out by the Civil Guard during these 29 days, in which the natural space was preserved so that it would not be filled with curious onlookers.

"All indications indicate that it could be the young British man who has been missing since June 17 in the absence of full identification. The first investigations reveal that he could have suffered an accident fall in the inaccessible area where he was found."
