Jay Slater's best friend Lucy Law breaks silence after body found in Tenerife search

The best friend of Jay Slater has described him as the 'happiest person in the room' after a body was found in the search for the missing teenager in Tenerife.

Lucy Law, 18, was on holiday with Jay on the Spanish island when he disappeared on June 17. The pair had travelled to Tenerife with another pal, Brad Hargreaves, 19, to attend a music festival.

Lucy previously told the Manchester Evening News how she was the last person to speak to Jay before he vanished. Following a rave in Playa de las Americas, the 19-year-old, from Lancashire, had travelled more than 30km north to a remote Airbnb in the village of Masca, before leaving on foot into the Rural Parc de Teno.

At around 8.30am on the morning of his disappearance, Jay called Lucy to say he was in the middle of nowhere and was trying to get home with no water and 1 per cent on his phone battery. This was the last anyone heard from him.

Now Lucy has paid tribute to her friend after a body was discovered in the Masca area yesterday (July 16). Although formal identification is yet to take place, the Civil Guard believes it to be that of Jay.

According to the Express, Lucy said: "Honestly lost for words. Always the happiest and most smiley person in the room, you was one of a kind Jay and you'll be missed more than you know.

"I'm sure you'll 'have your dancing shoes polished and ready waiting for us all. We all love you buddy. Fly high."

On Sunday, before the body was discovered, Jay's mum Debbie Duncan released a heartbreaking statement describing her son as a 'popular boy' and who is 'loved by everyone'. She said: "We cannot put into words the heartache we are suffering as a family.
