Jamie Vardy injury latest as Brendan Rodgers gives update ahead of Manchester United clash

Jamie Vardy will not be available for Leicester City's trip to Old Trafford with the striker continuing his comeback from a knee injury.

Nearly as soon as City welcomed back their number nine from a two-month lay-off following a hamstring issue earlier this month, he picked up a knock to his knee in the win over Leeds. It means Vardy has played just two of the club’s last 15 matches.

It has seen the former England man miss the last three Premier League games and the doubleheader Europa Conference League clash against Rennes last month. Both Patson Daka and Kelechi Iheanahco have been filling in for the 35-year-old.

Following the 2-1 win over Brentford before the international break, Rodgers gave an update on Vardy. He said: “The likes of Jamie, it’s a week to a couple of weeks, so that’s looking much healthier for us,”

That backs up what he said two days prior, which was: “Hopefully Jamie should be back training with us within the next week or so, which is great news, and he might not be too far away after the international break.”

There was a slight hope that a quick recovery could see the striker make it back in time for the trip to Old Trafford. But that won't be the case, with Rodgers giving a further update ahead of the game.

“We’ll see day by day," Rodgers said at his press conference this week. "He’s certainly not ready for the weekend. We’ll assess it over the next week to two weeks.”

There is however other players back in contention. Marc Albrighton is back from a groin injury while both Jonny Evans and Wesley Fofana are both available to start at centre-back for the first time since the FA Cup final at the end of last season.
