Jamie Vardy injury update as Leicester City give positive news ahead of PSV Eindhoven

Leicester City are hoping for positive news when they check in on Jamie Vardy next week.

The City striker had the final of a course of injections on Tuesday night as he looks to eradicate pain from his knee. He has been out for more than a month since sustaining the MCL problem in the win over Leeds.

While manager Brendan Rodgers has previously said Vardy can run and do fitness work without problems, striking the ball brings on pain, and so it’s matter the City doctors are looking into. Now, it’s a waiting game.

“That (final injection) was last night,” Rodgers said at his pre-match press conference for the Europa Conference League quarter-final second leg against PSV Eindhoven. “We’ll see over the course of the next week what effect that brings. Hopefully it can be positive news for us.”

There was positive news for Rodgers and City though in that there were no fresh injury problems to report following the weekend’s win over Crystal Palace. That will mean City have just five players unavailable for the game.

Luke Thomas recovered from a hamstring issue, while Caglar Soyuncu overcame illness to play against Palace, and while Ayoze Perez and Boubakary Soumare were not in the squad, they were close to recoveries, and so come back into contention for Thursday’s game.

That means that Vardy, Wilfred Ndidi, Danny Ward, and Ryan Bertrand are the only players to be absent through injury, with all four suffering from knee problems. Papy Mendy will again miss out because he’s ineligible for European games.
