Jamie Carragher responds to Erik ten Hag's criticism of his Manchester United analysis

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has issued a response to Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag's rant about his criticism of his team after last weekend's defeat to Fulham.

Just over 48 hours after United suffered their first defeat of 2024, Carragher issued a scathing tactical analysis of the Reds on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football. As well as blaming United's coaching staff for Kobbie Mainoo's positioning at kick-off, the pundit also said United "defend like a team I've never seen before".

Ten Hag, the following day, went on the attack, hitting back at Carragher in his press conference ahead of Wednesday night's win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. The United boss accused the former England international of lacking objectivity in his assessment.

Ten Hag said: "First of all, some analysts are very objective in their comments, very good advice, some are very subjective. Jamie Carragher from the first moment on has criticised and now he wants to make his point.

"Probably in the first half an hour, yes, he had a point. Fulham in their midfield set-up surprised us a little bit and then we have to find the solutions. After half an hour we found the solutions."

Carragher has since responded to Ten Hag's criticism of his analysis, admitting that he respects the United boss for issuing a passionate response and defending himself and his players.

"My analysis on Sky's Monday Night Football last week was intended to demonstrate why United are so inconsistent," said Carragher, penning his column for The Telegraph.
