James Tavernier WON'T stand for Rangers 'complacency' as teammates warned to keep it up or else

James Tavernier insists he won’t let complacency put resurgent Rangers’ title bid at risk.

The Ibrox side have completed a remarkable turnaround to move two points clear at the top of the table. It’s just four months since new boss Philippe Clement arrived in Glasgow to take over a team languishing seven points off the Premiership pace. But the Light Blues are now the favourites to go all the way thanks to a stunning return to form under the big Belgian.

However, skipper Tavernier is fully aware that the hard work really begins now for his side as they are faced with shouldering the burden of expectation that comes with being leaders. But he’s vowed he won’t hesitate to act if he sees any sign of easing off amongst his team-mates. Tav said: "We always had belief in our team, the players that we have. It took the change and the gaffer came in and upped the bar with the way we are playing, the demand that he wants for us all.

"We need to continue, not become complacent and keep demanding because there is still a long way to go in the competitions we are in and we just want to make the fans happy and us happy with our performances.”

With 12 games remaining - including two Old Firm derby clashes with Brendan Rodgers' stuttering Celtic - Tavernier fully expects to see further twists and turns in the race for the flag. But he believes Gers have the hunger to go all the way.

"We have great leaders in the squad,” said the right-back. "We all feed off each other and the manager believes in all the leaders and we continue to amplify his message towards the lads.

"It starts every day at training, really pushing our standards but there is no place for being complacent. We need to keep pushing ourselves to be better.”
