Cole McKinnon reveals Rangers pep talk from Clement as Dujon Sterling delivers on bold dressing room promise

Cole McKinnon has revealed Philippe Clement's pep talk ahead of his Rangers European debut as Dujon Sterling delivered on his big dressing room promise.

The 21-year-old was called upon in the final stages of Thursday's 2-2 draw with Benfica in Lisbon as his manager looked for fresh legs to get up and down the pitch in what could prove a massive result in the last 16 tie with the return to come at Ibrox next week. The winner will reach the quarter-final of the competition with a huge occasion to come in Govan.

It was another milestone moment for McKinnon who was 'absolutely buzzing' at getting on the park in such a big occasion. He detailed what his Belgian gaffer told him before he made his way onto the pitch and he hopes that many more minutes will come in the coming weeks and months ahead. He told Rangers TV: "He just said he believed in me and he knew it's not my usual position but he thought I done well in there in training and he trusted me. Also just to get up and down the pitch and I thought I did well.

"It just shows the belief the manger has got in young boys and hopefully there will be more appearances to come. After that I can't wait to get back home and get training again.

"Obviously I'm a Rangers fan as well so it's even better. I loved every minute out there, same as my debut. Hopefully there is more to come."
