James Bisgrove elected to SPFL board as Rangers cinch peace agreement clears path

James Bisgrove has been elected to the SPFL board.

The Rangers CEO replaces Celtic counterpart Michael Nicholson, as he was voted on alongside Malcolm McPherson of Hibs and Ross County's James MacDonald after Monday's ballot. The Ibrox chief's place looked to be in doubt in recent months, with the contractual feud between the club and primary league sponsors cinch rumbling on. Gers had been granted permission from arbiters at the Scottish FA to take the league to court over a lack of apology or offer to cover legal costs from the body.

But peace broke out last week as the SPFL performed a climbdown, offering an apology and agreeing to cover a portion of Rangers' legal costs. The league accepted that the club's existing agreement with Park's of Hamilton – the company owned by former chairman Douglas Park – meant they were unable to fulfil their obligations as part of the cinch sponsorship deal.

It had been thought rival SPFL clubs were set to vote in order to keep Bisgrove off the board due to the ongoing legal action. But after last week's settlement, the former top marketing man at Ibrox, who stepped up to replace Stewart Robertson back in April, has been voted onto the board.
