Jack Butland told England dream is ALIVE but Rangers star warned there's only one way to bowl Southgate over

Former England ace Wes Brown has urged Jack Butland not to give up on his Three Lions dream, telling the Rangers No1 - you might catch a lucky break yet.

The Ibrox goalkeeper suffered a major blow ahead of this summer’s Euros when he was overlooked for a recall ahead of this week’s Wembley friendlies with Brazil and Belgium. But Brown warned the shot-stopper not to become too despondent in the wake of Gareth Southgate’s snub, insisting there is still a good chance he may be needed in Germany.

Brown - capped 23 times by his country and a member of their 2002 World Cup squad - said: “Goalkeeper is a very important position. We all think Jordan Pickford will be the No1. After that, it’s probably comes down to whoever the manager has seen more of. We don’t know. It’s a tough position to judge because the keepers coming into the squad don’t necessarily play a lot.

"It’s pretty much Pickford starting most games. Maybe the odd friendly here or there someone else gets in but in general the back-ups don’t get a chance to play competitive matches for England, which is unfortunate.

“But all Jack can do is keep playing well for Rangers. It’s hard. Injuries are an obvious opportunity for him. If one of the guys in front of him picks up a knock. But it’s hard to say what his chances are. This is the last international break before the squad for the summer is picked.

“It will be difficult but Gareth has brought Kobbie Mainoo in from nowhere. Can he do the same for Jack? I’m not sure. He just has to keep his head up and play well until the end of the season.”
