'Issues all the way through' - Erik ten Hag explains why Jadon Sancho had to leave Manchester United

Erik ten Hag has claimed Manchester United have encountered 'issues' with Jadon Sancho throughout his entire time at the club since he arrived at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed Sancho from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021 and the winger has now re-signed for the German side after falling out with Ten Hag.

Sancho was absent from the squad to play Arsenal in September and a public dispute with his manager followed. He was subsequently banished from the first-team and he joined Dortmund on loan for the remainder of the season earlier this week.

Dortmund had their own discipline issues with Sancho during his first stint in the Bundesliga and he has been known to be late to training at Carrington during his time with United.

Ten Hag recently sat down for an interview with Sky Sports and he suggested United's issues with Sancho existed before he was appointed manager.

“He's now at Dortmund. So after he was signed, one year before [I was here], and there were issues. We have had issues all the way through, and so you can make out his stay at Manchester United so far is not a success," Ten Hag said.

"So now he is going back to Borussia Dortmund, so I wish him the best of luck. I hope, we all hope he is doing well there, he will be successful. Again, we will see what is going to happen.”

When asked if an apology from Sancho would have solved the situation, Ten Hag said: “We have said that before. And I don't want every time to return to the point. He knows what he should do and we have made that clear.
