Inter chief confirms Manchester United transfer interest in Andre Onana

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta has confirmed that Manchester United have made known their interest in goalkeeper Andre Onana albeit are yet to table a formal offer.

Erik ten Hag is searching for a new No.1 with David de Gea out of contract having yet to agree to a reduced-terms renewal. The Spaniard is getting married on Saturday and United are keen not to intrude on private family time but talks will re-commence face-to-face.

The United boss has refused to confirm De Gea as his first-choice 'keeper for next season following a year of errors leading to goals, despite his Premier League Golden Glove award.

Onana, 27, is one of the options being considered by United and Inter chief Marotta indicated that the player has been informed.

Speaking at the Gran Galà on Friday, as per The Athletic, he said: “Manchester United have expressed an interest (in Onana) which may or may not lead to an offer in the next few days. Once that happens, both Inter and the player will carefully assess it.”

And then speaking to Sky Italia, he added: “Onana hasn't received any official offer from Manchester United yet."

The Inter goalkeeper is widely seen as more accomplished with the ball at feet than De Gea.

The Champions League finalist - who kept 19 clean sheets across all competitions last season - still has four years left on his deal having only arrived last summer. Onana played under Ten Hag at Ajax prior to his switch to Italy.

United’s other current goalkeeper options include Dean Henderson and Tom Heaton. Henderson is set on a permanent move to Nottingham Forest after last season’s loan spell while Heaton had a 12-month contract extension triggered last month.
