In-form Dumbarton striker Michael Ruth aims to keep scoring run going

Dumbarton forward Michael Ruth ended a two-year league goal drought by netting in consecutive games.

And now he’s got Spartans in his sights, with the forward’s confidence in front of goal soaring.

The former Aberdeen striker hadn’t found the net in a league game since scoring against Dumbarton for Falkirk in November 2021 prior to the September 30 game against Stranraer. And he followed up a cool finish against the Blues with another clinical strike in last weekend’s 4-0 success against Clyde.

Michael, 21, told the Lennox: “I’m really happy to now be scoring goals. I was frustrated at the start of the season and I had a wee ankle problem at that time that I was having to strap up because it didn’t feel perfect, but that’s me now fully recovered and happy to be getting some goals.

“I should’ve had two against Clyde mind you, so I went home disappointed to be honest. But I’m glad to keep the scoring run going and I’m hoping to keep it up when we’re back this weekend.

“I’ve enjoyed playing with Waldo (Ryan Wallace) for the last few weeks. When he picks up the ball I know I can make the runs because he’s good at finding the right ball. I think everyone saw that against Clyde with the way he picked me out on the edge of the box for the third goal.

“He’s obviously been in about the goals as well recently which helps.

“Being a striker is all about confidence and when the ball comes to me now I’m feeling a lot more confident on both feet in and around the box.”
