Dumbarton 4-0 Bonnyrigg Rose - Red hot Sons prove too strong for Rose

Delighted Sons boss Stevie Farrell said his side are heading in the right direction, as they steamrollered Bonnyrigg Rose at The Rock.

First-half strikes from local heroes Tony Wallace and Finlay Gray had the Sons in a commanding position at half-time, with two goals in three second-half minutes from Michael Ruth and man of the match Matty Shiels securing a statement victory.

The Sons boss said: “If we’re going to be successful then our home form has to be good. We need to play on the front foot and are clinical at the top end of the pitch.

“We did all those things. It was very, very good.

“After a rocky first 10 minutes we settled and looked a good side after that.

“We knew that Bonnyrigg would come at us in the second-half, and we weathered that before getting the third goal at a good time.

“It was a thoroughly professional performance against a good side.

“Bonnyrigg are no mugs and they don’t take many heavy defeats. We’re going in the right direction.”

Farrell was once again without skipper Mark Durnan, meaning Aron Lynas partnered Sean Crighton at the heart of the Dumbarton defence.

And the reigning player of the year got off to a shaky start, as he gifted Ross Gray possession on the edge of the box - but Brett Long bailed out the defender with a superb one-on-one save with his face.

After a series of Rose corners, Sons began to show their threat.

A terrific move saw Michael Ruth link with strike partner Ryan Wallace to set Finlay Gray free, but he was denied by the legs of Rose keeper Paddy Martin after surging into the box.

And after just 11 minutes another slick Sons move saw the hosts take the lead.
