Ian Gordon admits Hibs transfer U turn as director insists Black Knight relationship remains strong

Former Hibs head of recruitment Ian Gordon admits the club have performed a U-turn on their transfer strategy after getting it wrong in the past.

With Malky Mackay now in as the Easter Road club's sporting director, he is now the head honcho when it comes to signing and selling players. Rookie boss David Gray lets Mackay know who he wants and it's up to the former SFA technical director to make it happen. It's an area fans were heavily critical of when Gordon was seemingly heading it up, although details on what his role entailed exactly remain vague.

A high turnover of players, as well as managers, has seen a scattergun approach to the type of signing Hibs make, and no clear plan was obvious to fans. Now however, the focus has shifted under Mackay to a Scottish or British core, which Gordon believes can work fir HIbs as it has for other Premiership sides.

“With Malky coming in, through those discussions it was very much we wanted to have that Scottish core, and that British experience,” Gordon told the Scotsman. “That is our main focus but we still want to explore new markets and keeping that going, but it's about reassessing where we are at. We tried to go too international, too young, too quickly.

"With Malky's experience and Dave, it was about the Scottish core, British experience that we can build around. I'd say there needed to be a bit of a reset. There's proof that that works in this league and the club has a history of it. I think it is absolutely that.
