Ian Evatt shares update on Bolton Wanderers duo ahead of Oxford United test

Bolton Wanderers manager Ian Evatt has revealed that George Johnston is set to be available for tomorrow’s clash with Oxford United after recovering from illness.

Johnston missed Tuesday’s meeting with Charlton Athletic as a result of this particular issue.

Evatt has also confirmed that Elias Kachunga has stepped up his road to recovery by getting back on the grass this week.

Kachunga has been forced to watch on from the sidelines since featuring in Bolton’s EFL Trophy clash with Huddersfield Town due to a thigh injury.

In the absence of the former Huddersfield Town man, Bolton have produced some incredibly impressive displays in the third-tier.

Victories over Ipswich Town, Shrewsbury Town, Sunderland, Cambridge United and Charlton have allowed the Trotters to move up to 10th in the League One standings.

Set to face Oxford on Saturday, Bolton will be determined to extend their current unbeaten run to seven games at the Kassam Stadium.

Ahead of this fixture, Evatt has shared an update on Johnston and Kachunga.

Speaking to The Bolton News about the latter of the two aforementioned players, Evatt said: “Kacha has been back out on the grass today [Thursday].

“He’s doing some running, he’s come through fine.

“He’s progressing really well.”

Making reference to Johnston, Evatt added: “George is back training today [Thursday], he’s over the 24-hour sickness bug.”

The Verdict

This is an encouraging update for Bolton as both of these players will add some strength in terms of the depth of the club’s squad when they make their return to action.

When you consider Johnston has played 27 games for the club in the third-tier this season, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if he is handed a start in Saturday’s showdown with Oxford.
