I spotted how Manchester United players reacted to benched star - it felt significant

Manchester United failed to make it three wins on the bounce against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

United headed into the game after comfortable victories against Southampton and Barnsley, but they drew 0-0 with Palace and the points were shared at Selhurst Park.

Erik ten Hag's side were brilliant in the first half and created chances, but Dean Henderson produced several good saves and the game was somehow goalless at the break.

Palace grew into the game following the interval and created opportunities of their own, yet they squandered those and it was a tightly contested affair in the closing stages.

Here are the main talking points from the game...

The wasted chances

Henderson is a familiar face and made multiple important saves to deny United a well-deserved lead in the first half. Alejandro Garnacho struck the crossbar and came inches away from making it 1-0 with a chance akin to Paul Gascoigne's against Germany in Euro '96.

United had 70 per cent possession by half-time and the only criticism of their performance was their failure to take their chances. Garnacho tested Henderson again after the hour mark with a superb curling effort and it began to feel like a night that maybe wasn't meant to be.

On the journey back to Manchester, United will rue their missed chances because the game could have been dead and buried by the break. Despite that, there were positives to take from the performance and there is visible progress being made after a worrying start to the campaign.
