I saw who Manchester United were linked with in January transfer window and it's exactly what I expected

No number of TV crews camped outside Premier League training grounds can change the fact the January transfer window isn't as exciting as the summer window.

The winter window is a difficult time to make any major changes to teams. Unsurprisingly, most sides are unwilling to let their best players go mid-season considering the lack of time to bring in a suitable alternative.

This means those who are available to the likes of Manchester United have an asterisk attached to their names. Look at the Reds' pursuit of a striker, for example. It is clear to anyone who has watched United this season that the club is crying out for a leading striker. Rasmus Hojlund could make the grade at some stage but he is not in a position to lead the line right now.

His meagre goal return in the Premier League has led pundits and fans alike to call for the club to sign a senior centre forward, but the players being linked with the club are frustratingly predictable. First up is Bayern Munich's Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

Since leaving Stoke City, the Cameroonian has enjoyed a remarkable football journey, playing for Paris Saint-Germain and now the Bundesliga champions. He is available because Bayern have United's first-choice striker from the summer transfer window and he currently has a modest three goals to his name this season.

Next up is RB Leipzig's Timo Werner. Like Choupo-Moting, he is struggling for regular minutes at his club and is searching for an exit route. Werner made his name at Leipzig but his move to the Premier League with Chelsea has severely damaged his stock.
