Another game, another disappointing Manchester United display.

Ruben Amorim's side were dismantled by Newcastle at St James' Park on Sunday as goals from Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, as well as a brace from Harvey Barnes, rendered Alejandro Garnacho's goal a mere consolation in a 4-1 defeat at St James' Park.

It left United 14th in the Premier League table and, in truth, their domestic season has been over ever since they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Fulham and their season lives or dies by their Europa League exploits.

Nonetheless, the manner of their defeat in the north east invited criticism from former United stars who now hold court in the TV studios.

Former United captain Roy Keane was in the Sky Sports studio on Tyneside and, typically, didn't hold back in his scathing assessment of United.

He also doubled down on questioning the leadership of current United captain Bruno Fernandes, suggesting he doesn't hold his teammates to account if their standards drop.

"It is not easy and, to be fair to Bruno, he does front up and the club push him out because he is the best player and captain," Keane said.

"To me, it is just soundbites from him now.

"Let’s hope they win on Thursday, by the way - that’s all they are talking about. Lyon are sixth in the French league, I fully expect United to beat Lyon.

"He is talking about players and his belief in them - what about his right-back who didn’t put a foot in (for the second goal)? I hope he is pulling (Diogo) Dalot in the dressing room.

"He keeps talking about his teammates, a real good teammate puts demands on each other. Whether that’s out on the pitch, in the dressing room or on the training ground.
