'I'm told' - Journalist claims Harry Kane doing 'background work' to bring 27 y/o to Spurs

Following the arrivals of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez at the Etihad Stadium this summer, there is a growing expectation at Manchester City that Sterling will leave the club.

The precarious contract situation surrounding the player may make it easier for a potential buyer and also force City’s hand when it comes to an exit, with the 27-year-old’s deal expiring in 12 months’ time.

Taking to Twitter, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed that Chelsea’s opening bid of €25m (£21.4m) plus add-ons was rejected by City, who are thought to be looking between €55-60m (£47-52m) and Spurs’ rivals are expected to make another offer.

However, Bailey has now given a fascinating insight into Tottenham’s stance on the developing situation – and Harry Kane may have some pull when it comes to a potential transfer.

He said: “I’m told that Harry Kane might be doing some background work here, might be trying to persuade his England teammate. They play very well together, these two – let’s not rule it out. And so, if he’s considering Chelsea, why wouldn’t he consider Tottenham?

“Antonio Conte is just as impressive – probably more than Thomas Tuchel in many ways. So yeah, I’d take Tottenham seriously, and they can offer Champions League football as well.”

Last summer, when ironically, a link-up between the two England teammates was being discussed as Kane looked set for Manchester, the England captain told TalkSport (via MEN) that the pair get on “really well” and have formed a “great partnership” at international level.

While Kane and Son Heung-min have created a formidable bond at club level – sharing 49 goals between them last season – adding Sterling to the forward line would be sure to terrorise opposition defences.
