'I'm a game show addict who's won £70,000 from 18 shows... you can do it too'

Game show addict Mike Stratton is such a fan of TV quiz programmes he’s appeared on 18 – winning a whopping £70,000 in cash and prizes.

Mike, known as “Game Show Guy”, has taken part in shows including The Weakest Link, Fear Factor, 24 Hour Quiz, Perseverance, Beg, Borrow or Steal, Bullseye and Are You Smarter Than A 10-Year-Old.

He even managed to get on the iconic Who Wants to Be a Millionaire but sadly never made it past the Fastest Finger First level.

It all started when Mike, from Wigan, received a flyer at the tanning salon he used to own with his wife.

The dad-of-three, who lives in the Bryn area, said: “We got a flyer through the door. She handed it to me and said, ‘You think you know everything, why don’t you go on it?’

“I said, ‘Okay, I will,’ and that was it. I applied for everything I could.”

Mike, 55, made his first game show appearance on Greed, a show hosted by Jerry Springer, where he managed to scoop a huge £10,000.

From then on, the dad was hooked, going on to take part in multiple quiz shows a year. To date, his favourite has been 24 Hour Quiz, a show broadcast on ITV between February and April in 2004.

Presented by Shaun Williamson, known as Barry from EastEnders, three people lived together in the ‘quiz pod’ and faced multiple choice questions for at least 16 hours per day.

One pound, sometimes more, was won per correct answer and the programme was spread across three different shows a day on ITV1.

Mike stayed on the show for three weeks and won more than any other contestant with £13,500 in cash and £15,000
